For as long as I can remember, I have loved cooking, gardening, and collecting pretty dishes. An appreciation for healthy lifestyles and an interest in science led me into the medical field, and I practiced emergency medicine in the community setting for many years.
My interest in photography was kindled by opportunities to explore foreign lands. Disappointed in photos I had taken with my phone camera, I took a travel photography course and upgraded my camera. When the pandemic struck and I was not able to travel, I started creating still life photographs at home using fresh fruits, vegetables, and flowers and (mostly) healthy dishes I prepared for my family.
I felt it was time for a career change, and I discovered the wonderful creative field of Food and Lifestyle Photography. I am especially drawn to the beauty of fresh, natural, wholesome foods.
I love learning about classical art, and my style has been heavily influenced by the Old Masters of the Dutch Golden Age and Italian Renaissance. I also enjoy applying concepts from psychology and neuroscience to create photographs with strong visual impact and meaning. I endeavor to craft images with aesthetic depth, inviting the viewer to slow down and linger while imparting warm feelings of peace, well-being, and belonging.
Travel has also shaped my development as a photographer. Forever curious, I love to learn about the food cultures and traditions of the places I visit. I have attended a cooking and food photography workshop in Sicily and traveled to Iceland and Acadia National Park for general photography workshops.
I enjoy active trips that allow me to see lesser touristed areas—I have completed iconic long-distance walks such as the Tour du Mont Blanc, the Alta Via I in the Dolomites, and the Great Glen Way across Scotland. Open water swimming trips have brought me to magical places such as the Sea of Cortez, the Yucatán, the Turquoise Coast of Türkiye, and Slovenia. At every place I visit, I enjoy sampling the local cuisine and exploring local food markets and grocery stores.
At home, I volunteer with a local kitten rescue organization. Several kittens have decided to stay with me permanently and occasionally agree to model for photographs.
